Decision of the Press Council

At its meeting on 4th February 2011, the Press Council gave careful consideration to the application to appeal the decision of the Ombudsman from the complainant acting on behalf of the family of a deceased individual. The Council decided to admit that section of the complaint dealing with Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice.

The Council had a comprehensive discussion of the newspaper article in question in relation to Principle 5 (Privacy). The Council concluded that the article did not breach Principle 5.

The Decision of the Press Ombudsman is upheld.
