The Press Council of Ireland has renewed the appointment of the Press Ombudsman, Professor John Horgan, for a second three-year term.

The Press Council of Ireland has announced the appointment of Daithi O’Ceallaigh as Chairman. He succeeds Professor Tom Mitchell, who served as Chairman since the establishment of the Council in January 2007.

The Chairman of the Press Council of Ireland, Professor Thomas Mitchell, today (Friday 23 April) warmly welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform that he had signed the Order conferring statutory recognition on the Council.

The approval by both Houses of the Oireachtas of a draft order recognising the Press Council of Ireland under the 2009 Defamation Act will greatly benefit the operations of the Council, the Office of the Press Ombudsman, and the press generally, according to the Chairman of the Council.
